Injectables

Daxxify in Clarks Summit, PA - twice the duration, placed by a physician.

Daxxify at The Summit Aesthetics is a physician-injected neuromodulator that softens frown lines and other dynamic wrinkles for an average of six months per session – approximately twice as long as traditional Botox. Every Daxxify injection at our Clarks Summit medical spa is performed personally by our physician-owner, Dr. Charles Dennis – not by a nurse injector, physician assistant, or delegated staff member. FDA-approved in 2022 and manufactured entirely in the United States, Daxxify uses a proprietary peptide to stabilize the formula rather than human albumin. Most patients see softening within 2 to 3 days and full effect within 7 to 10 days. Your complimentary consultation includes a written treatment plan you take home – there is no obligation to book.

What Daxxify is and how it works

Daxxify (generic name: daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is a purified botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator, FDA-approved in September 2022 for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. It is manufactured by Revance Therapeutics.

Two things make Daxxify structurally different from Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin:

  • Peptide stabilization instead of albumin. Daxxify uses a proprietary peptide (RTP004) to keep the toxin stable in the vial and bound in the target muscle after injection. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin all use human serum albumin. That peptide is the mechanism responsible for Daxxify’s longer duration.
  • Made entirely in the United States. Daxxify is the only botulinum toxin currently manufactured in the U.S. Some patients care about this. Most do not. We flag it because it is a real difference, not because we’re selling it.

The mechanism of action is the same as Botox: Dr. Dennis injects Daxxify into a specific facial muscle, the toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signal to that muscle, the muscle relaxes, and the overlying skin – no longer being pulled into a repeated crease – smooths out. The difference is not what it does; the difference is how long it does it for.

What Daxxify treats at The Summit Aesthetics

FDA-approved indication: moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) – the vertical “11s” between your eyebrows.

Daxxify is also used off-label – as Botox has been for two decades – for other dynamic facial areas. Off-label use of neuromodulators is well-established in medical aesthetics and is legal and appropriate when performed by a qualified provider. Dr. Dennis will discuss which areas are candidates for Daxxify at your consultation. Common off-label areas we treat with Daxxify include:

Forehead lines

horizontal lines across the forehead

Crow's feet

lines fanning out from the outer corners of the eyes

Bunny lines

small wrinkles across the top of the nose when you scrunch

Lip flip

a small dose along the upper lip border to gently roll it outward

Masseter reduction (jawline slimming)

reducing bulk of the jaw muscles - Daxxify's longer duration is particularly attractive for this area

Neck bands (platysmal bands)

softening vertical neck cords

For patients treating multiple areas simultaneously, we often use a combined plan of Daxxify in some areas and Botox in others – matched to how frequently each area needs re-treatment and how the muscles respond individually.

How many units of Daxxify do I need?

Daxxify is dosed differently from Botox. It requires a higher unit count per area because a Daxxify unit is not equivalent to a Botox unit – the two products are not interchangeable and cannot be dose-converted 1:1. As a general guide:

Treatment area

Typical unit range (per session)

Frown lines (glabellar) – FDA-approved

40 units (standard FDA dose)

Forehead

20 – 30 units

Crow’s feet (both sides)

15 – 30 units

Lip flip

8 – 10 units

Bunny lines

6 – 10 units

Masseter (both sides)

60 – 100 units

These are ranges. Dr. Dennis will confirm your specific unit count at your consultation based on your muscle mass, movement patterns, and prior neuromodulator history. Because Daxxify uses more units per area but lasts twice as long, most patients end up with a comparable annual unit total to what they would use with Botox – spread across half the appointments.

What to expect at your Daxxify appointment

01

Consultation (first visit)

Complimentary, 45 minutes. Dr. Dennis reviews your goals, your medical history, any prior neuromodulator experience, and builds a written plan. If you're switching from Botox, we discuss the transition specifically.

02

Treatment (injection appointment)

15 to 20 minutes. Dr. Dennis marks the injection points, cleanses the skin, and administers the units using a fine 30- to 32-gauge needle. Same injection technique as Botox - the experience is essentially identical.

03

Immediately after

Small raised bumps at each injection site that settle within 15 to 30 minutes. Minor bruising is possible.

04

Onset

Softening begins 2 to 3 days after treatment (faster than Botox's 3 to 5 days). Full effect at 7 to 10 days.

04

Follow-up

Two weeks after your treatment, we invite you back for a complimentary review. If any area needs a small touch-up, we address it at no additional charge.

How long does Daxxify last?

For most patients, Daxxify lasts approximately six months in the treated areas. A subset of patients see continued effect at nine months. In the pivotal clinical trials that led to FDA approval, at least 50% of patients had no or minor frown lines at six months post-treatment.

For context:

  • Botox: 3 – 4 months average
  • Dysport: 3 – 4 months average
  • Xeomin: 3 – 4 months average
  • Daxxify: ~6 months average

Factors that shift where you land in the range:

  • Muscle activity. Highly expressive or athletic patients metabolize any neuromodulator faster. Daxxify’s duration advantage is not eliminated by high muscle activity, but the specific number of weeks shifts.
  • Dose. The 40-unit FDA-approved dose for glabellar lines is what produced the six-month clinical result. Reducing the dose reduces duration proportionally.
  • Injection accuracy. Precise placement in the target muscle produces longer, cleaner duration. This is where physician injection is a meaningful advantage.

Daxxify aftercare: what to do and what to avoid

Aftercare for Daxxify is identical to Botox – the same rules apply to any injectable neuromodulator.

For 4 hours after treatment

  • Stay upright – do not lie flat
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga, and heavy heat exposure

For the first 24 hours

  • Avoid alcohol if possible (increases bruising risk)
  • Avoid facial treatments (facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling)
  • Skip makeup on the injection sites if you can

Fine after 24 hours

  • Normal exercise, sleeping in any position, all normal skincare and makeup

When to call us

Any asymmetry that persists past day 10, any drooping of the eyelid or brow, any allergic-type reaction (rare). Call (570) 585-0201.

Daxxify vs Botox - which one is right for you?

Both are neuromodulators. Both relax the muscle. Both are FDA-approved for frown lines. The differences that actually matter for choosing between them:

Best fit for

Patients frustrated with 3-month maintenance, patients who travel frequently, patients who want fewer visits per year, patients with albumin sensitivity concerns

Patients new to neuromodulators, patients who want shorter-cycle flexibility, patients treating many areas at once

Can I switch from Botox to Daxxify?

Yes. Many patients start with Botox, decide they want fewer maintenance visits, and switch to Daxxify. The transition is straightforward – Dr. Dennis will time your Daxxify appointment to align with when your Botox effect fully wears off (usually 3 to 4 months after your last Botox), then dose your Daxxify treatment based on your muscle response history. Some patients also run a combined plan – Daxxify in some areas, Botox in others – matched to how each area behaves and how frequently each needs re-treatment.

Why "physician-injected" matters for Daxxify

In most medical spas, Daxxify is delegated to a nurse injector, aesthetician, or physician assistant. That is legal in Pennsylvania when performed under proper medical supervision. It is how the majority of injectables in the country are performed.

We do it differently. Every syringe of Daxxify at The Summit Aesthetics is placed by Dr. Charles Dennis personally. That is not a marketing line – it’s the structure of how the practice operates. There is no “second-provider” tier and no delegation.

Why it matters clinically for Daxxify specifically:

  • Higher-dose product = higher-stakes placement. A 40-unit Daxxify treatment placed slightly off target produces a slightly off-target effect that lasts six months rather than three. Precision matters proportionally more with longer-lasting neuromodulators.
  • Complication management. In the rare case something needs medical intervention, the person who placed the injection is a physician – not a delegate calling a physician.
  • Same-provider dose tracking. Dr. Dennis places every injection and remembers your specific dosing, response pattern, and preferences across visits. That continuity produces cleaner results as your treatment plan evolves.

Is Daxxify safe? Who should not get Daxxify?

Daxxify was FDA-approved in September 2022 following pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials. Its safety profile is comparable to other botulinum toxin type A products. Complications are uncommon and, in almost every case, temporary.

Common, minor, and expected

  • Small bumps at injection sites (resolve in 15 – 30 minutes)
  • Minor bruising (1 – 5 days)
  • Mild headache for 24 hours (some patients)
  • Feeling of “heaviness” as the muscle relaxes (3 – 7 days)

Uncommon, temporary

  • Asymmetry (usually correctable with a small touch-up at day 14)
  • Eyelid or brow drooping (rare, resolves as the effect wears off)

Who should not get Daxxify

  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone with a known allergy to any Daxxify component or previous allergic reaction to a botulinum toxin product
  • Anyone with a neuromuscular disorder (myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, ALS)
  • Anyone with an active skin infection at the intended injection sites

Tell Dr. Dennis at your consultation if you take blood thinners (increases bruising risk), have had prior neuromodulator complications with any product, or are planning surgery within 3 months of your treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Questions our patients ask most

Daxxify is priced per unit at The Summit Aesthetics. Because it requires more units per area than Botox but lasts approximately twice as long, most patients end up with a comparable annual cost – spread across half the appointments. Dr. Dennis will provide a specific unit-count estimate and total for your plan during your complimentary consultation. Call (570) 585-0201 to schedule.

Daxxify lasts an average of six months in the treated areas. In pivotal clinical trials, at least 50% of patients had no or minor frown lines at six months post-treatment, and a subset saw continued effect at nine months. Duration depends on muscle activity, injection accuracy, and the dose administered.

Both are neuromodulators that relax facial muscles to soften wrinkles. The main differences: Daxxify lasts approximately six months per session; Botox lasts three to four months. Daxxify uses a proprietary peptide as its stabilizer; Botox uses human albumin. Daxxify is made entirely in the U.S.; Botox is manufactured globally. Both are injected by Dr. Dennis at The Summit Aesthetics – many patients try both across visits before choosing a preference.

Yes. Many patients start with Botox and switch to Daxxify because they want fewer maintenance visits per year. The transition is straightforward – Dr. Dennis times your Daxxify appointment to align with when your Botox effect fully wears off, then doses your Daxxify treatment based on your muscle response history. Some patients also run a combined plan with Daxxify in some areas and Botox in others.

No. Injection technique and needle gauge are the same. Dr. Dennis uses a fine 30- to 32-gauge needle for both products. Most patients describe the sensation as brief small pinches. Some patients notice a slight sting during the injection because of the higher unit volume Daxxify uses, but this resolves within seconds of each injection.

You’ll see softening at 2 to 3 days after treatment (slightly faster than Botox) and the full effect at 7 to 10 days. This is normal and consistent across patients.

Daxxify was FDA-approved in September 2022 and its safety profile in clinical trials is comparable to other botulinum toxin type A products, which have a well-documented safety record since Botox’s original FDA approval in 2002. Long-term safety data specific to Daxxify continues to accumulate as more patients complete multi-year treatment cycles.

None in the traditional sense. You can drive, work, and continue your day immediately. The only restrictions are staying upright for 4 hours, avoiding heavy exercise for the rest of that day, and skipping facials for 24 hours – same rules as Botox aftercare.
