Injectables
Botox in Clarks Summit, PA - placed by a physician, not delegated.
Botox at The Summit Aesthetics is a physician-injected neuromodulator treatment that softens dynamic facial wrinkles – frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet – for approximately three to four months per session. Every Botox injection at our Clarks Summit medical spa is performed personally by our physician-owner, Dr. Charles Dennis – not by a nurse injector, physician assistant, or delegated staff member. A typical first-time treatment for the upper face takes 15 to 20 minutes, uses 20 to 60 units depending on your muscle activity and treatment goals, and requires no downtime. Most patients see softening within 3 to 5 days and full effect within 10 to 14 days. Your complimentary consultation includes a written treatment plan you take home – there is no obligation to book.

What Botox is and how it works
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, FDA-approved since 2002 for the cosmetic treatment of dynamic wrinkles – the lines that form when you make expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows.
When Dr. Dennis injects Botox into a specific facial muscle, it temporarily blocks the nerve signal that tells that muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes. The overlying skin – no longer being pulled into a repeated crease – smooths out. Existing static lines soften. New lines form more slowly.
Botox does not fill anything. It does not add volume. It does not tighten skin. It relaxes the muscle causing the wrinkle. That is a meaningful distinction – and it’s why patients with volume loss or skin laxity usually need a combined plan rather than Botox alone.

01
Frown lines (glabellar lines)
the vertical "11s" between your eyebrows
02
Forehead lines
horizontal lines across the forehead
03
Crow's feet
lines fanning out from the outer corners of the eyes
04
Bunny lines
the small wrinkles across the top of the nose when you scrunch
05
Lip flip
a small dose along the upper lip border to gently roll it outward
06
Chin dimpling
smoothing the "cobblestone" texture of the chin
07
Downturned mouth corners
softening the muscles that pull mouth corners downward
08
Gummy smile
relaxing the upper lip elevator muscle to reduce gum show when smiling
09
Masseter reduction (jawline slimming)
reducing bulk of the jaw muscles
10
Neck bands (platysmal bands)
softening vertical neck cords
11
Excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)
an off-label but well-established use
If you're not sure which area is the right starting point, Dr. Dennis will map your dynamic movement patterns during your consultation and recommend the smallest effective plan.
How many units of Botox do I need?
Unit counts vary by muscle mass, movement strength, and desired result. As a general guide for the most common areas:
Treatment area
Typical unit range (per session)
Frown lines (glabellar)
15 – 25 units
Forehead
10 – 20 units
Crow’s feet (both sides)
10 – 24 units
Lip flip
4 – 6 units
Bunny lines
4 – 10 units
Chin dimpling
4 – 8 units
Masseter (both sides)
40 – 60 units
These are ranges, not prescriptions. A conservative first treatment often lands at the lower end so we can see how your muscles respond before adjusting at the two-week follow-up. It is much easier to add a few units than to remove a treatment that was too aggressive.
What to expect at your Botox appointment
Consultation (first visit)
Complimentary, 45 minutes. Dr. Dennis assesses your dynamic movement, discusses your goals, reviews your medical history, and builds a written plan.
Treatment (injection appointment)
15 to 20 minutes for a standard upper-face treatment. Dr. Dennis marks the injection points, cleanses the skin, and administers the units using a fine 30- to 32-gauge needle. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of small pinches - brief and manageable without numbing.
Immediately after
You will see small raised bumps at each injection site - these settle within 15 to 30 minutes. Some patients have minor bruising at one or two sites, which resolves within a few days.
Onset
Softening begins 3 to 5 days after treatment. Full effect at 10 to 14 days.
Follow-up
Two weeks after your treatment, we invite you back for a complimentary review. If any area needs a small touch-up, we address it at no additional charge.
How long does Botox last?
For most patients, Botox lasts three to four months in the treated areas. That range is not marketing language – it’s the median duration across published clinical trials and matches what we see in practice.
Several factors shift where you land in that range:
Muscle activity.
Patients who are highly expressive, athletic, or who have strong native muscle tone metabolize Botox faster.
Metabolic rate.
Younger and highly active patients often see a shorter duration.
Dose.
Under-dosing produces a shorter duration because the muscle regains function sooner.
Treatment consistency.
Patients on a regular 3- to 4-month schedule often extend interval length over time as the muscle "learns" the reduced activity pattern.
If you're looking for a longer-lasting alternative, Daxxify - also injected by Dr. Dennis - averages six months per session.
Botox aftercare: what to do and what to avoid
For 4 hours after treatment
- Stay upright – do not lie flat
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas
- Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga, and any heavy heat exposure
For the first 24 hours
- Avoid alcohol if possible (increases bruising risk)
- Avoid facial treatments (facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, microneedling)
- Skip makeup on the injection sites if you can
Fine after 24 hours
- Normal exercise
- Sleeping in any position
- All normal skincare and makeup

Why "physician-injected" matters for Botox
In most medical spas, Botox is delegated to a nurse injector, aesthetician, or physician assistant. That is legal in Pennsylvania when performed under proper medical supervision. It is also how the majority of injectables in the country are performed.
We do it differently. Every syringe of Botox at The Summit Aesthetics is placed by Dr. Charles Dennis personally. That is not a marketing line – it’s the structure of how the practice operates. There is no “second-provider” tier and no delegation.
Why it matters clinically:
Consistency.
The same clinician who mapped your muscles at your consultation is the one placing the units. Dose adjustments across visits build on the same clinical judgment, not a hand-off.
Complication management.
In the rare case something needs medical intervention (brow ptosis, asymmetry, allergic response), the person who placed the injection is a physician, not a delegate calling a physician.
Anatomical accuracy in complex areas.
Masseter reduction, gummy smile, neck bands, and jawline slimming are more anatomically demanding than a standard upper-face treatment. Physician-level anatomy training matters more here than most patients realize.
Is Botox safe? Who should not get Botox?
Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and has a long, well-documented safety profile when performed by a qualified provider. Complications are uncommon and, in almost every case, temporary.
Common, minor, and expected
- Small bumps at injection sites (resolve in 15 – 30 minutes)
- Minor bruising (1 – 5 days)
- Mild headache for 24 hours (some patients)
- Feeling of “heaviness” as the muscle relaxes (3 – 7 days)
Uncommon, temporary
- Asymmetry (usually correctable with a small touch-up at day 14)
- Eyelid or brow drooping (rare, resolves as the effect wears off)
Who should not get Botox
- Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
- Anyone with a known allergy to any Botox component or previous allergic reaction to a botulinum toxin product
- Anyone with a neuromuscular disorder (myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, ALS)
- Anyone with an active skin infection at the intended injection sites
Tell Dr. Dennis at your consultation if you take blood thinners (increases bruising risk), have had prior neuromodulator complications, or are planning surgery within 3 months of your treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Questions our patients ask most
How much does Botox cost in Clarks Summit, PA?
Botox is priced per unit at The Summit Aesthetics. Your unit count depends on which areas you’re treating and how strong your muscle activity is. Dr. Dennis will provide a specific unit-count estimate and total for your plan during your complimentary consultation. Call (570) 585-0201 to schedule.
How long does Botox last?
Botox typically lasts three to four months. Patients who are highly athletic, highly expressive, or metabolically fast often see the shorter end of that range. Patients on a consistent every-3-to-4-month schedule often see the interval extend gradually over time as the muscle adapts to reduced activity.
Does Botox hurt?
The injections feel like brief, small pinches. Dr. Dennis uses a 30- to 32-gauge needle (very fine) and most patients describe the discomfort as minimal and brief. Topical numbing is available on request but rarely needed for standard upper-face treatments.
What's the difference between Botox and Daxxify?
Both are neuromodulators that relax facial muscles to soften wrinkles. The main differences: Botox lasts 3 to 4 months per session; Daxxify lasts approximately 6 months. Botox has been FDA-approved since 2002; Daxxify since 2022. Both are injected by Dr. Dennis at The Summit Aesthetics – many patients try both across visits before choosing a preference.
How soon will I see Botox results?
You’ll see softening at 3 to 5 days after treatment and the full effect at 10 to 14 days. This is normal and consistent across patients – it takes time for the muscle to fully release.
Can Botox be reversed if I don't like it?
Botox cannot be reversed, but it is temporary. If the result is not what you wanted, the effect wears off in 3 to 4 months. That is one of the reasons we prefer conservative first treatments – under-dosing can be corrected with a small addition at the two-week follow-up; over-dosing cannot be undone.
Is there any downtime after Botox?
None in the traditional sense. You can drive, work, and continue your day immediately. The only restrictions are staying upright for 4 hours, avoiding heavy exercise for the rest of that day, and skipping facials for 24 hours.
