Body Treatments

TruSculpt iD in Clarks Summit and Scranton, PA - non-surgical fat reduction in 15-minute sessions.

TruSculpt iD at The Summit Aesthetics is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical body sculpting treatment that permanently reduces stubborn fat in targeted areas of the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, back, arms, and chin using monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy. Every TruSculpt iD session at our Clarks Summit medical spa is personally performed by Lori Barone, our Certified Cosmetic Laser Technician with more than 5 years of experience. Sessions take approximately 15 minutes per treatment area, involve no surgery, no injections, and no downtime, and typically produce an average 24% reduction in fat thickness after a single treatment – with full results visible at 8 to 12 weeks as your body naturally metabolizes the treated fat cells. TruSculpt iD is a physique-refinement treatment for patients within a stable weight range – not a weight-loss method. Your complimentary consultation includes a candidacy assessment and a written plan.

Is TruSculpt iD right for you? (Read this before booking)

We want to be honest with you upfront: TruSculpt iD is not a weight-loss treatment, and we will not treat patients using it as one. Patients who arrive expecting body sculpting to substitute for diet, exercise, or bariatric intervention are almost always disappointed – and that disappointment is a failure of expectation-setting, not a failure of the treatment.

TruSculpt iD is a physique-refinement treatment. It works best when:

  • You are at or near a stable, healthy weight (typically within 15–20 pounds of your goal)
  • You have specific, localized areas of stubborn fat that have not responded to consistent diet and exercise
  • You want a permanent reduction in fat cells in those specific areas – not overall body weight change
  • You have realistic expectations for the 8–12 week results timeline and can commit to maintaining a stable weight during that window

If your goal is overall weight loss, or if you are more than 30 pounds from your goal weight, we will tell you that at the consultation and recommend against booking TruSculpt iD until your weight is more stable. That is not us walking away from a treatment we could sell you – it is us setting you up for a result you’ll actually be happy with.

How TruSculpt iD works - the actual mechanism

TruSculpt iD is a monopolar radiofrequency (RF) device made by Cutera. During a treatment session, Lori places one or more small hand pieces on the target area. The RF energy passes through the skin and heats the underlying fat tissue to approximately 45 degrees Celsius – warm enough to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in the fat cells, but not hot enough to damage the surrounding skin, muscle, or connective tissue.

Over the following 8 to 12 weeks, your body’s lymphatic system gradually clears the destroyed fat cells and metabolizes them out. Because those fat cells are permanently removed from the treatment area, the reduction is durable – as long as you maintain a stable weight, the treated area stays smaller.

Body areas we treat with TruSculpt iD

At our Clarks Summit medical spa, Lori uses TruSculpt iD to treat the most common areas of stubborn fat that resist diet and exercise. Patients across Scranton, Abington, Dunmore, and the wider NEPA region come to us for:

01

Abdomen (upper, lower, or full).

The single most-treated TruSculpt area. Effective for the lower-belly "pooch" that persists after weight loss, and for the sides of the abdomen that don't respond to core work.

02

Flanks (love handles).

One of the highest-satisfaction areas for TruSculpt iD. Flanks are stubborn to reduce through exercise alone.

03

Thighs (inner or outer).

Inner thigh fat responds particularly well. Outer thigh (saddlebag) treatment is more variable and depends on your individual anatomy.

04

Back (bra line, mid-back).

Effective for the fat pockets that create the "bra bulge" or the fat that shows above pants at the low back.

05

Arms (upper arms).

The under-arm area that resists tricep exercises. Best results in patients with good skin elasticity.

06

Chin and neck (submental fat, "double chin").

A high-satisfaction TruSculpt iD area - especially for patients who don't want to commit to Kybella injections or lower-face surgery. Typically requires 2 sessions.

At consultation, Lori will assess which areas of your body are good candidates for TruSculpt iD, which areas are not (some areas of fat require surgical removal, not RF), and which areas may benefit from a different treatment entirely.

TruSculpt iD vs. CoolSculpting - the honest comparison

This is the most-asked comparison in non-surgical body sculpting, and it deserves a real answer. Both treatments are FDA-cleared, both are non-surgical, and both permanently destroy fat cells in the treated area. They work by entirely different mechanisms, and the differences are worth knowing before you choose.

TruSculpt iD (what we offer)

CoolSculpting

Technology

Monopolar radiofrequency (heat)

Cryolipolysis (cold)

How it destroys fat cells

Heats fat to ≈45°C, inducing apoptosis (cell death)

Freezes fat to sub-zero temperatures, causing cell death by crystallization

Session length per area

15 minutes

35 to 60 minutes

What it feels like

Warm – like a hot stone massage. Most patients tolerate easily.

Intense cold + suction for the first 5–10 minutes; numb sensation thereafter

Typical fat reduction per session

Approximately 24% average in treated area

Approximately 20–25% average in treated area

Sessions typically needed

1 to 4, depending on area and goals

2 to 4, depending on area and goals

Downtime

None

None (some patients have temporary numbness for 1–2 weeks)

Bruising / swelling

Rare, mild

Common – bruising, swelling, and temporary numbness are expected

Works on all body types

Yes – flat applicator adapts to most contours

Requires “pinchable” fat that fits inside a suction applicator

Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH)

Not associated with this specific complication

A rare but documented complication of cryolipolysis (fat area grows larger, not smaller, in the treated zone)

Results visible at

8 to 12 weeks

8 to 12 weeks

Both treatments work. Both are legitimate. The right choice depends on your body, your tolerance for the sensation during treatment, and the specific areas you want addressed. At The Summit Aesthetics we chose TruSculpt iD because the flat-panel RF applicator handles a wider variety of body contours than the suction-based CoolSculpting applicator, because the 15-minute session length is dramatically shorter, and because the warm sensation is meaningfully more comfortable for most patients than the initial cryolipolysis cold.

What to expect at your TruSculpt iD appointment

Consultation (first visit)

Complimentary, 45 minutes. Lori evaluates the areas you want treated, assesses your candidacy honestly, reviews your medical history, and builds a session plan. If you're not a good candidate, we'll say so at this visit.

Treatment session

Approximately 15 minutes per treatment area. For the abdomen or flanks, Lori will position the RF applicator on the target area and adjust the settings for your skin thickness and fat depth. You'll relax on the treatment table while the device delivers warmth to the tissue.

What it feels like

A steady, warm sensation that most patients describe as similar to a hot stone massage. Not painful. Not uncomfortable. Some patients bring headphones and treat the session as their 15 minutes of quiet time.

Immediately after

The treated area may feel slightly warm and look mildly pink for an hour or two. Both resolve on their own. Patients typically return to work, exercise, and normal activities immediately - there is no downtime.

Follow-up

Depending on your treatment plan, you may need one or more additional sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Results begin to appear at 4 weeks and reach their full visible effect at 8 to 12 weeks.

How many TruSculpt iD sessions will I need?

Session count depends on the area, the amount of fat in that area, your goals, and how your body responds to the first session. As a general guide:

Treatment area

Typical session count

Session length

Abdomen (single area, upper or lower)

1 to 2 sessions

15 minutes each

Full abdomen (upper + lower)

2 to 3 sessions

30 minutes each

Flanks (both sides)

1 to 2 sessions

15–30 minutes each

Inner thighs

1 to 2 sessions

15–30 minutes each

Outer thighs

2 to 3 sessions

15–30 minutes each

Back (bra line or lower back)

1 to 2 sessions

15–30 minutes each

Upper arms

2 to 3 sessions

15 minutes each

Submental (chin / neck)

2 sessions

15 minutes each

The average patient sees a 24% reduction in fat thickness in the treated area after a single session. For most areas, one to two sessions produces a visible and satisfying result. Patients who want a more pronounced reduction, or who are treating areas with more baseline fat, may benefit from an additional session at the 12-week mark.

When will I see TruSculpt iD results?

The most common source of new-patient frustration with any body sculpting treatment is the results timeline – which is much slower than injectables, dermal fillers, or lasers because the process is biological, not physical.

Here’s the actual timeline:

Time after treatment

What’s happening

What you may notice

Immediately after

Fat cells have received thermal damage; apoptosis is initiated

Warmth and mild pinkness that resolves within hours

Week 1–2

Body begins clearing damaged fat cells via the lymphatic system

No visible change yet – this is normal

Week 3–4

Continued lymphatic clearance

Some patients notice the first subtle changes

Week 6–8

Majority of destroyed cells are cleared

Visible reduction in treated-area thickness

Week 8–12

Full apoptosis and clearance complete

Peak visible result – this is when we assess the outcome and decide about additional sessions

If your goal is a result visible before a specific event, plan the treatment at least 12 weeks in advance. Do not book TruSculpt iD in the weeks before a beach vacation or a wedding expecting to see change by the event date.

TruSculpt iD aftercare

One of the genuine advantages of TruSculpt iD is how minimal the aftercare is. There’s no true “downtime” – you can return to your normal life immediately. That said, a few things help the treatment work as well as possible.

For the first 24 hours

  • Drink extra water – lymphatic clearance is aided by good hydration
  • Skip alcohol if you can (it slows lymphatic function)
  • Normal exercise is fine – many patients treat the session as a lunch-break appointment and return to work immediately

For the next 8 to 12 weeks (the results window)

  • Maintain a stable weight. Significant weight gain during the results window can cause remaining fat cells in the untreated areas to enlarge, which offsets the visible result in the treated area. Weight loss during this window is fine.
  • Stay hydrated and active. Both support lymphatic clearance of the destroyed fat cells.
  • Don’t judge your result before week 8. The changes accumulate gradually. Patients who look for change at week 2 sometimes conclude the treatment didn’t work, and the assessment is simply premature.

Are TruSculpt iD results permanent?

Yes – the fat cells destroyed by TruSculpt iD are permanently eliminated from the treated area. They do not grow back.

But there is an important caveat: the remaining fat cells in that area (and in every untreated area of your body) are still fully capable of enlarging if you gain weight. So while the treated area will always have fewer fat cells than it had before, whether the visible result is maintained depends on whether you maintain a stable weight. Patients who gain 15 to 20 pounds after TruSculpt iD will see the visible result diminish; patients who maintain their weight see the visible result last indefinitely.

Why "provider-consistent care" matters for TruSculpt iD

TruSculpt iD is a medical device with meaningful settings for depth, energy delivery, and treatment duration. The right settings depend on your skin thickness, fat depth, treatment area, and how your body responded to earlier sessions. That kind of judgment is significantly better in a technician who has performed thousands of TruSculpt sessions than one who has performed a few dozen.

Every TruSculpt iD session at The Summit Aesthetics is personally performed by Lori Barone. The same technician who assesses your body at consultation is the same person who delivers your treatment at session one, session three, and every follow-up. There is no rotation and no delegation.

Specifically for body sculpting, this matters because:

  • Applicator placement is technique-sensitive. Optimal RF delivery depends on how the applicator sits against the tissue, at what angle, and with what pressure. A technician who has treated tens of thousands of patients across 5+ years places it correctly by default.
  • Session-to-session progression tracking. If you’re doing a two- or three-session plan, Lori tracks how your body responded to the first session and adjusts the second accordingly. That continuity is impossible with rotating technicians.
  • Honest candidacy assessment. The single biggest cause of TruSculpt disappointment is treating patients who weren’t good candidates in the first place. Physician-owned practices with experienced technicians are less commercially incentivized to book patients who shouldn’t be treated.

Is TruSculpt iD safe? Who should not get treated?

TruSculpt iD has an excellent safety profile. It’s FDA-cleared, non-surgical, non-invasive, and has been used in aesthetic practices for years with a low complication rate. Serious complications are very rare.

Common, expected, and short-lived

  • Mild warmth in the treated area for an hour or two
  • Mild pinkness or redness that resolves within a few hours
  • Occasional slight tenderness at the treatment site for a day or two

Uncommon

  • Small firm nodules under the skin as the fat cells clear (usually resolve on their own within weeks)
  • Temporary numbness or altered sensation in the treated area

Who should not get TruSculpt iD

  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone with an active skin condition, open wound, or infection at the treatment site
  • Anyone with a pacemaker, defibrillator, or other implanted electronic medical device
  • Anyone with metal implants in the intended treatment area
  • Anyone with a hernia in the intended treatment area (particularly relevant for abdomen treatment)
  • Anyone with poorly-controlled diabetes or a condition that impairs wound healing
  • Anyone significantly above their goal weight (candidacy issue, not safety per se – discussed at consultation)

Frequently asked questions

Questions our patients ask most

TruSculpt iD is priced by treatment area and session count. Larger areas (full abdomen) cost more than smaller ones (submental chin). Multi-session plans are typically bundled at a discount versus paying per session. Lori will provide a specific total for your plan during your complimentary consultation. Call (570) 585-0201 to schedule.

Yes, in the right patient, on the right area. Independent clinical studies have shown an average 24% reduction in fat thickness after a single session, measured 12 weeks after treatment. Results depend heavily on candidacy – patients within a stable weight range with localized stubborn fat see the best outcomes. Patients using it for weight loss are almost always disappointed.

Both are FDA-cleared, non-surgical treatments that permanently reduce fat cells. TruSculpt iD uses radiofrequency (heat) to induce fat cell apoptosis; CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis (cold) to freeze and destroy them. TruSculpt sessions are 15 minutes; CoolSculpting sessions are 35–60 minutes. TruSculpt feels like a warm stone massage; CoolSculpting is intensely cold initially. Both produce similar fat reduction percentages. TruSculpt iD is not associated with paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), a rare complication of cryolipolysis in which the treated area grows larger rather than smaller.

Most patients need 1 to 4 sessions, depending on the area and their goals. The abdomen and flanks often show meaningful results after a single session; the outer thighs, upper arms, and submental area typically benefit from 2 to 3. Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Lori will build a specific plan at your consultation.

Initial changes may be visible at 4 weeks. Meaningful, measurable changes typically appear at 6 to 8 weeks. Full peak results are visible at 8 to 12 weeks. This is because your body has to metabolize the destroyed fat cells through the lymphatic system – a biological process that takes weeks, not days.

No. The most common description patients give is “like a warm stone massage.” The treated area feels comfortably warm during the 15-minute session, with the device’s cooling system keeping the skin surface at a safe temperature. Most patients relax during the treatment.

The fat cells destroyed by TruSculpt iD are permanently eliminated from the treated area – they do not grow back. However, the remaining fat cells in your body can still enlarge if you gain weight, which affects how the treated area looks over time. Patients who maintain a stable weight see permanent visible results; patients who gain 15–20 pounds after treatment see the visible result diminish.

No. TruSculpt iD is a fat-reduction treatment for localized stubborn areas – not a weight-loss method. The scale weight change from a TruSculpt session is minimal because the treated volume of fat is small relative to overall body weight. Patients whose goal is significant weight loss should pursue that through diet, exercise, or medical weight-loss support first, and consider TruSculpt iD once their weight is stable.

Yes. TruSculpt iD is often combined with other treatments as part of a comprehensive plan. Common combinations include TruSculpt iD for fat reduction paired with skin tightening treatments for lax skin, or TruSculpt iD in the body paired with facial treatments like Virtue RF Microneedling or EVERESSE. Lori will discuss combination options if they’re relevant to your goals.
