The two categories of injectable treatments
Understanding which broad category your concern falls into is the first step in choosing the right treatment. Many patients come in thinking they want “Botox for their face” when what they actually need is filler for cheek volume loss – or vice versa. The two categories work on completely different mechanisms:
Neuromodulators – for expression lines and dynamic wrinkles
Neuromodulators are injectable proteins (based on botulinum toxin type A) that temporarily reduce the activity of specific facial muscles. When the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin smooths and expression lines soften or disappear. Neuromodulators work best on dynamic lines – lines that appear or deepen when you make expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows.
The two neuromodulators we offer: Botox → (the market-leading option, ~3-4 month duration) and Daxxify → (a longer-lasting alternative, ~6 month duration for many patients).
Dermal fillers – for volume, contour, and structure
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels injected beneath the skin to restore volume, define contours, and smooth static folds. Fillers do not affect muscle activity – they add physical material where it’s needed. Fillers work best on volume-loss concerns (cheeks, temples, tear troughs), definition concerns (jawline, chin), and structural concerns (nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lip enhancement).
The two filler product families we offer: Juvéderm → (the market-leading family, includes Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Ultra XC, Ultra Plus) and RHA → (Revance’s resilient hyaluronic acid family, includes RHA 2, 3, 4 – particularly good for movement-heavy facial areas). Why "physician-injected" matters for injectable treatments
The single biggest source of patient dissatisfaction with injectable treatments is inconsistent results from provider-to-provider variation. That variation is real. Injectable technique is not primarily about which product is chosen – it’s about product placement, dosing precision, understanding of facial anatomy, and cumulative aesthetic judgment. Two providers using the same syringe of the same product in the same anatomical area can produce noticeably different results.

The consultation: Dr. Dennis examines your facial anatomy at rest and in movement, discusses your specific concerns and goals, explains what injectables can and can’t achieve for your situation, and builds a written treatment plan you take home. There is no fee, no card required, and no obligation to book treatment.
The treatment plan: The plan will identify which specific product goes where, at what dosing, and in what sequence. For patients considering both neuromodulator and filler treatments, the plan may sequence them into different visits (typically neuromodulator first, filler at a later visit once you see the neuromodulator result) or combine them into a single visit – depending on your goals and preferences.
Pricing and financing: Injectable pricing is per-unit (for neuromodulators) and per-syringe (for fillers). Total cost varies substantially based on how much of each product is needed. General aftercare across all injectable treatments
Specific aftercare varies by treatment; general principles apply broadly. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided at your appointment and repeated on the individual treatment pages.
For 24 hours after any injectable
- Avoid vigorous exercise
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and hot showers
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area
- Sleep on your back if possible (especially after facial filler)
For neuromodulators specifically (Botox / Daxxify)
- Keep your head elevated for at least 4 hours after treatment
- Do not lie flat for 4 hours
- Contract the treated muscles gently for the first hour to help the product settle correctly
- Results begin at 3-5 days and reach peak effect at 2 weeks
For fillers specifically (Juvéderm / RHA / lip)
- Use cold compresses if any swelling or bruising
- Avoid facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments in the area for 2 weeks
- Expect potential mild swelling for 1-3 days, particularly for lip work
- Full result visible at 2 weeks after any residual swelling resolves
Injectable safety and contraindications
Injectable treatments have strong safety records when performed by qualified providers on appropriate candidates. Contraindications that apply across all injectable treatments:
